Former Pakistani captain Sarfaraz Ahmed shed light on the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 as he attended the lunch for the Pakistan and South Africa women's teams at the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Karachi on Saturday.
Sarfaraz, on this occasion, talked about the Pakistan cricket team and their most recent achievement as they became the number one ODI team after whitewashing Afghanistan 3-0 in a three-match series.
"After becoming the number one ODI team, the Pakistan team is highly motivated and they also look better than the Indian team," Sarfaraz said. "They will perform well in the World Cup after the Asia Cup.
"We became the number one ODI team right at the edge of the Asia Cup and World Cup, which is a good sign as it will bring confidence to the players."
The wicketkeeper batter also gave his opinion on the ongoing Pakistan vs India clash.
"Pakistan vs India is a high-voltage match. Everyone wants Pakistan to beat India but I am sure that the Green Shirts will have their eyes on the entire tournament,” he said.
The 36-year-old mentioned the issue of the central contracts as the final negotiations were once again delayed due to the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the players should put an end to this issue of central contracts. The players also have this thing in their mind that they have not yet received the contracts.
"I hope that this issue will be put to bed before the World Cup."
Sarfaraz is one the most successful captains of Pakistan in this century. He led the Green Shirts to the Champions Trophy 2017 triumph where they defeated India by 180 runs in the final as they were ranked number eight in the ODI rankings then.
Other than that, during his captaincy, Pakistan also became the number T20I team as he captained the side to 11 successive series wins.
